Lent: Day 19
Family. We’re all different within a family. What a variety of personalities. What a diverse collection of people. We belong to each other; for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, we belong to one another. We depend up each other, our personalities gel our talents converge, our temperaments give life. What a collection, huh. When one of us hurts we all hurt, when one of us rejoices we all rejoice.
A parish family is much the same. Interdependent. We need one another: presence, prayer, support. With so many gifts available within a family and within a parish wouldn’t you think more would come forward to give life to the whole. Yes many do, and we progressively grow through that presence. Others simply stand back while others must assume greater responsibility. Still others desert with no word or warning. It happens.
