Another thought for the day:

"To follow Christ by bending down to our brothers and sisters . . . to be everything to everyone, to undervalue nothing that pertians to Christ; to be thirsty for only one thing, to be concerned with only one thing when dealing with the One Christ."

Friday, September 11, 2009

On this day, we pray that the hearts of those who wish us evil may be converted -- and we hope to have the power and the will to forgive them....

On this day, we remember the survivors, those who still suffer the effects of 9/11 and other terrorist acts...

On this day, we remember the victims -- the thousands who died in the attack on the twin towers and the Pentagon and the attempted attack on another target which finished in a plane crash in a field in Pennsylvania; we remember their victims of terrorism in other nations. May they rest in God's peace!

On this day, we pray for ourselves, that we may have the strength to bear whatever may happen to us, remembering that we are God's, and we pray that we may have the will and strength to help those who cry out to us in their need -- not only for assistance, but for a sense of meaning and purpose.

"Whether we live or die, we are the Lord's."

This may sound like our limitation; it is in reality our strength."

23rd Sunday

"Be Opened": many years ago when I celebrated Mass in "SIGN" it was difficult to see those three young children/teenagers in front of me. I suppose I just wanted them to be able to hear what I hear and what everyone else hears.
I saw, though, that their lack of hearing did not prevent them from communicating, nor from having a 'normal' family life, nor from praying, nor from knowing Christ.
Their 'lack' though gave many of us a challenge we would not have undertaken otherwise: learning Sign. We held Sign classes in the Parish each week and the Sunday following each class larger and larger groups of people would participate in the responses not only with their speech but also in Sign. It was a blessing to see.
"Be Opened": I think we helped a great deal. The miracle, though, was us.
We Opened.

Moving Across the Tiber

After seven years of prayer and discernment, a community of Episcopal nuns and their chaplain will be received into the Roman Catholic Church during a Sept. 3 Mass celebrated by Archbishop Edwin F. O’Brien.

The archbishop will welcome 10 sisters from the Society of All Saints’ Sisters of the Poor when he administers the sacrament of confirmation and the sisters renew their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in the chapel of their Catonsville convent.
Episcopal Father Warren Tanghe will also be received into the church and is discerning the possibility of becoming a Catholic priest
