Celebrating Lent: 2013

Lent 2013: Day 16:

Have you ever noticed that when most people begin to chat about their children it’s usually a summary of their achievements? Their child: has masters degrees, doctorates, is well connected with important people, owns a beautiful home, has an important job, how intelligent they are, etc etc.

Rarely do you hear a parent discuss their child or children in the context of who they are as a person, on the interior. What I mean is: how they impact others for good: volunteer for a particular charity organization, how important their faith is to them and that they feel responsible to impart that faith to their spouse and children, the unexpected good they do for someone, how dedicated to their family, they are mentors, volunteers, active with their families . . .

Our values are skewed. Material possessions, awards, and so on do not bring us life. Christ beings us life. Eternal life, actually.

Now, in no way do I mean to sound negative here. Material possessions, personal achievements are to be applauded, of course they are, however, they are not an end in themselves but are meant to lead to an end: eternal life with God.

I appreciate your talents, all of them, I applaud your achievements and thank you – most importantly - for using them for those in need.

??? What kind of a person am I; what are a few of the things I do for others ???
