Lent 2013: Day 21

I’m looking forward to next Tuesday. That’s March 12. That’s the day when, in the evening, the Cardinals of the Church will officially begin their Conclave. AS far as the outcome is concerned. All I can do about that is what I have been asked to do: PRAY.
In case you’d like to do the same and would appreciate help, the Kinghts of Columbus have offered this prayer:

O Lord Jesus Christ, Supreme Pastor of Your Church,
we thank you for the ministry of Pope Benedict XVI
and the selfless care with which he has led us
as Successor of Peter, and Your Vicar on earth.

Good Shepherd, who founded Your Church
on the rock of Peter’s faith
and have never left Your flock untended,
look with love upon us now,
and sustain Your Church in faith, hope, and charity.

Grant, Lord Jesus, in Your boundless love for us,
a new Pope for Your Church
who will please You by his holiness
and lead us faithfully to You,
who are the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Amen.

??? Do I pray often for the Church ???

Lent: Day 20

Having thought about the sense of belonging to Church and to family, along with feeling a sense of responsibility to both: we briefly tackle a further issue: disengagement. What if a family member decides to separate themselves from the family unit? What if someone chooses to no longer be associated with the family of faith in which they were raised?

The initial step in both cases is to invite them to return. To help them restore that broken relationship. Certainly God wishes that you and I value our first and deepest relationships, family and faith; not to indiscriminately toss them aside. Hurts and pains and rifts hopefully can be overcome although it takes some effort. Are we to believe that God desires and easily accepts our fractured relationships with one another? Is not God interested in our resolving conflict in our life?

Make the first move. What’s so wrong with that? It may not be easy, true, but don’t you think God expects us to be healers as He is The Healer.

??? What can I do to help my family be one again ???

Lent: Day 19

Family. We’re all different within a family. What a variety of personalities. What a diverse collection of people. We belong to each other; for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, we belong to one another. We depend up each other, our personalities gel our talents converge, our temperaments give life. What a collection, huh. When one of us hurts we all hurt, when one of us rejoices we all rejoice.
A parish family is much the same. Interdependent. We need one another: presence, prayer, support. With so many gifts available within a family and within a parish wouldn’t you think more would come forward to give life to the whole. Yes many do, and we progressively grow through that presence. Others simply stand back while others must assume greater responsibility. Still others desert with no word or warning. It happens.
.
??? Am I a faithful, contributing member of my Church family ???

Adopt a Cardinal:

Here's an initiative that brings together your Year of Faith prayer life and the papal conclave: Adopt a Cardinal.
Adopt a Cardinal is a web site where you enter a minimum amount of information -- your name and email -- and press 'Register and adopt a cardinal.' Just like that, you'll see the picture, name, country, date of birth, and date of elevation of YOUR personal cardinal to pray for.

Lent 2013: Day 18

I’ve been a practicing Catholic for over 66 years now. I’ve never “fallen away” or left the practice of my faith. I don’t say that clinging to that statement as a Badge of Pride, it’s just true.

Oh yes, I have been discouraged, angry, upset, disgusted, hurt, offended, (shall I go on???); but I have kept running the race. You see, I belong, of my own free will - based on a Call. I am a member of His Body no matter what some earthly creature may attempt to do to destroy that Body, built on a Rock. The Church has many members (where have I heard that before?), parts – as does the human body. When one of those members (parts) chooses to leave the body, the body is simply not the same. Nor, indeed, is the member who decided to separate.

No, it ain’t always easy to belong to the Bark of Christ. But, hey, you got something better not based on self?

??? Do I pray for the conversion of those who have decided to go their own way, parted from His Body ???
